Welcome to Mrs. McMullen's Reading Class Blog! I will try my best to keep you updated with all we are doing in our third grade reading this year! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. We also have our classjump website as well where all three of your child's teachers are connected. Let's make this a great year together!

Splash Into Summer!

We had a great turn out Friday night for our end-of-the-year event, "Splash Into Summer"! The families had fun playing in water, hula hooping, eating, winning prizes, and enjoying the company of our wonderful school family!

THANK YOU to all the parents who donated cupcakes and all those who showed up to help. We had more than enough supplies and helpers! You are truly what makes our school GREAT!

3rd Grade Booth

Reading Across the Grade Levels

Our class has had the opportunity to read with a couple of different grade levels the last two weeks. Our first class we read with was Mr. Carroll's fifth grade class. We read "Stellaluna". Last week we read with Mrs. Johansen's fourth grade class and read "Adelita or Domalita (The Mexican Cinderella Story)".

The time spent reading with the other classes was very enjoyable. The students were all engaged and enjoyed reading together, it was beautiful! We hope to read with another class before the end of the school year!

Walking Field Trip to Silica Studios

We had a great field trip to Silica Studios, Mr. McMullen's custom ceramic studio. The class, along with several family volunteers, walked over to the studio on S. Williams Rd. We had a tour of the inner workings of a professional ceramic studio and made our own pinch pots! The kids were amazing little "potters" and we can't wait to see their finished product!

Thank you to Silica Studios for your hospitality and the opportunity for our class to make a special souvenier! Your support for our school community is greatly appreciated!

Hello Everybody!

Well, after the blogger system being down for quite some time, we are back up and running with updates and information for you!

First of all, I would like to tell all the students and parents, "GREAT JOB!" for your hard work and dedication to taking our CST tests. I know the flu was going around concurrently, but you all made the best effort to be to school prepared and on time! Yay! I am so proud of all the kids trying their best and using their strategies! You are all Super Stars in my eyes! We look forward to receiving their results in August.

Dropping a post to you all to keep you up to date with what is going on in our classroom....

CST Test Prep
We have been busy working hard on our third grade standards and practicing for the CST tests coming up quickly ~ beginning May 10th! Time sure has flown by! A schedule for the third grade testing schedule was sent home recently. I will scan and post it again for you all as well next week. If you go to www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sr/css05rtq.asp you can view and practice released test questions from previous years.



IXL Math Free Trial
The students are all signed up for their 30 day trial of IXL math and they love it! They are able to practice at home as well. This is a great website; all standards based math. I can pull up reports of the students to troubleshoot areas and see how they are progressing. Just go to: http://www.ixl.com/ and your child knows their username and password: just remind them to add 612 after their name for their username. Our 30 day trial ends May 26th so try and get as much from it as you can at home also! The kids like it and I think it is wonderful!


Volunteer Options:
I will be sending a note home with your child about volunteering in the classroom. I included some ideas and times if you would like to come in. I also included options for those of you who are not able to come in during the day due to work scheduling conflicts, etc...


I would also like to take this opportunity to express to each and every one of you how special and beautiful inside I think your child is! They have really touched my heart and I feel blessed at being able to take part of their educational journey. What a wonderful school we have and an amazing group of kids! They make me proud as I am sure they do you!

Vacation!

I hope you all are enjoying some time off during this beautiful weather we are having!

A reminder: the rodeo is March 26th and Cielo Vista Charter will have a booth! Any parents that would like to help clean up it would be greatly appreciated.

We Walked-for-Words!

Our class really worked hard last week at our Walk-for-Words walk-a-thon! I am so proud of each and every one of our students! As a class we ran a total of 226 laps! Any monies collected for sponsorships are due on February 25, 2011 so keep on collecting! If our school reaches our goal of $10,000 we will watch Mrs. Lake and Mr. Fergon have a tricycle race during our Character Counts assembly!

Walk-for-Words

This Friday, February 11, 2011 Cielo Vista Charter students and staff will be participating in "Walk-for-Words". Students were sent home last week with sponsor forms. We are raising money to go to our school library! If our school reaches our goal of $10,000 Mrs. Lake and Mr. Fergon will have a tricycle race for the entire school to watch! Let's all work together to help raise money for our amazing school!
